چکیده

In this paper, we propose a method towards unsupervised segmentation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image for segmentation of homogeneous regions. The SAR amplitude image is modeled by Rayleigh distribution. Moreover, in order to avoid geometric topology variations, the curve evolution is implemented via level sets. In addition, a new energy function is proposed, which is more objective and robust for the segmentation purpose. During the curve evolution, a convex factor is considered to guarantee the regularity of the region boundary. Finally, a novel termination criterion of the evolution of energy function is designed. And then, the effectiveness of our method is demonstrated on real SAR images.

Speckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Exploiting Intra-scale and Inter-scale Dependencies

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images are inherently affected by a multiplicative noise-like phenomenon called speckle, which is indeed the nature of all coherent systems. Speckle decreases the performance of almost all the information extraction methods such as classification, segmentation, and change detection, therefore speckle must be suppressed. Despeckling can be applied by the multilooki...

A Fast Level Set Method for Synthetic Aperture Radar Ocean Image Segmentation

Segmentation of high noise imagery like Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images is still one of the most challenging tasks in image processing. While level set, a novel approach based on the analysis of the motion of an interface, can be used to address this challenge, the cell-based iterations may make the process of image segmentation remarkably slow, especially for large-size images. For this ...

Speckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Using Laplace Distribution

Speckle is a granular noise-like phenomenon which appears in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images due to coherent properties of SAR systems. The presence of speckle complicates both human and automatic analysis of SAR images. As a result, speckle reduction is an important preprocessing step for many SAR remote sensing applications. Speckle reduction can be made through multi-looking during the...

Polarimetric SAR Image Object Segmentation via Level Set with Stationary Global Minimum

We present a level set-based method for object segmentation in polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) images. In our method, a modified energy functional via active contour model is proposed based on complex Gaussian/Wishart distribution model for both single-look and multilook PolSAR images. The modified functional has two interesting properties: (1) the curve evolution does not enter ...

Study of subsidence of Abarkooh plain of Yazd using the Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry method

Abstract The population growth, the development of cities, industry, agriculture, and improper use of resources especially non-renewable resources have led human beings to face the danger of running out of resources. In some cases, in addition to the above, irreversible environmental and geological hazards have occurred due to the overdrawn of resources. Over extraction of groundwater resourc...
